Another view of the Victoria Falls
Another view of the Victoria Falls. A flight over the Falls (whether by fixed-wing aircraft, helicopter or micro-light) offers a completely different perspective compared with the view at ground level.
Part of the Falls, from a distance
Part of the Falls, from a distance. When the water is at high flow, from about March through early June, a massive plume of mist sometimes obscures much of the view. Under such conditions the Falls are best viewed from the air.
View of the bridge over the Victoria Falls gorge
View of the bridge over the Victoria Falls gorge. The bridge connects Zimbabwe and Zambia and it is used by cars, trains and pedestrians. Trains - such as the Blue Train - sometimes stop on the bridge for photographs.
The 'Big Tree', a particularly impressive Baobab Tree, near the Victoria Falls
The 'Big Tree', a particularly impressive Baobab Tree, near the Victoria Falls. Baobab trees are much favored by wildlife including elephants which relish the moisture in the bark. Baobabs are amongst the oldest trees in the world, with specimens of 800 years and older in existence.
Elephants encountered on the road, quite close to Victoria Falls
These elephants were encountered on the road, quite close to Victoria Falls. Buffalo and other animals such as bushbuck, impala and warthogs are regularly seen in the area. Care should be taken on the footpaths around the Falls.
Our Jacana Safari started in Chobe
Our Jacana Safari started in Chobe, where we spent three nights in a mobile tented camp. Activities consisted of twice daily game-viewing drives along the Chobe River.
