illustrate our Sept. 1999 Jacana Safari in Botswana.
The welcome 'committee' at Jacana Camp. The staff at all the camps were friendly and hospitable, often treating us to impromptu 'song and dance' acts after dinner.
A mokoro outing from Jacana Camp, in the Okavango Delta. Our activities at Jacana Camp consisted of morning and afternoon mokoro outings, combined with walks on the nearby islands.
Returning to camp after a mokoro outing. The polers, who are members of the Bayei tribe, learn the art of poling from an early age. In order to conserve trees, mokoros are mostly made from fiberglass, nowadays.
Sunset over the Okavango Delta. There are few experiences quite as tranquil as a mokoro outing, with hardly any sound being produced, other than the gentle swishing of the 'canoe' cutting through the water and reeds.
