Wilderness Safaris' Tracy Shapiro is just back from a quick trip up to see the four camps in the Linyanti area - Kings Pool, DumaTau, Savuti and Linyanti Tented Camp. She reports that massive upgrades and refurbishments have been taking place over the past two months and predicts that the camps are going to be truly spectacular this year. "The area has not had too much rain over the past two months and a lot of elephants are already back in the Linyanti Wildlife Reserve. There are four packs of wild dogs in the reserve and one pack came trotting through Kings Pool the morning we were there. Leopard, cheetah and lion are all being seen on a regular basis - and the first zebras are already in the concession from their trek in from the Savuti Marsh / Mababe Depression and from the desert areas. The carmine bee-eaters nested in their thousands in the banks of the Linyanti and guests had wonderful views of the birds last year. The youngsters have all left the nest sites after a successful breeding season and are about to start making their way into central Africa.

"Kings Pool no longer has zips. Each room now has wonderful double doors. All the floors have been sanded and repainted and have that wonderful deep red color to them. There is a new hide (blind) built to the west of the camp (about 75m past the honeymoon suite) where all the elephants come down to drink and guests will enjoy wonderful midday viewing from this hide. (There are four other hides in the reserve as well which offer great viewing). The outdoor showers at Kings Pool will be finished in the next two weeks or so (as will those at Savuti Camp). Savuti will have doors to the entrances of each tent as well and the whole camp received a 'face-lift' in the summer months and is looking stunning. Linyanti Tented Camp has new tents and these were being erected - and the camp is on schedule to re-open later this month. Dumatau has been open for all of summer and the guests have had good game viewing - and the camp is looking wonderful."
