ZAMBIA EMERALD SEASON
The game-viewing experience in Zambias South Luangwa Valley
is very similar to Botswana, as the wildlife species are similar (elephant,
buffalo, giraffe, zebra, kudu, impala, good numbers of predators, lots of
hippo, crocodiles etc.) and Zambia also has a few notable local species such as
puku, Cookson's wildebeest and Thornicroft's giraffe. The summer months in
Zambia are particularly good for sightings of African wild dogs. The ambience
at the camps is very laid back and very friendly - Zambians are great hosts and
they work very hard to make every trip a real fun experience for guests.
Here is what a Bushcamps representative had to say about this
season: "Indeed we do a wonderful Green Season Package... The early summer is a
particularly fine time to visit as the proper rains have not yet started and
the grasses are all still low and the game is astronomical... It always amazes
me why more people have not cottoned on to the great value and game
viewing!"
Here are 10 good reasons to visit the South Luangwa Valley in the
Emerald Season:
- The bush is a vivid and vibrant emerald green
- The air is crystal clear - excellent for photography
- The migrant birds arrive and breed, the young emerging in
March. Many birds such as weavers, bishops, longtails and finches which are
drab in the dry season, are in brilliant breeding plumage and it is endlessly
fascinating to watch them display and build nests, and listen to their
never-ending 'chatter'.
- A time of rebirth - the impala perform a spectacular drop in
early November, and most mammals have a birthing peak during the following few
months.
- Color dots the landscape as the flowers burst forth.
- The afternoon storms, mostly isolated, are vast towering clouds
reflecting the evening light.
- Sunsets could not be more spectacular.
- The electrical storms can light up the landscape at night.
- The mighty Luangwa and Zambezi Rivers fill and flow at their
peak.
- The Victoria Falls really thunders!!
So join us on a safari...in the Emerald Season...Zambia's Secret
Gem....
